Way finding: Survey Answers

We asked students what kind of environment inspires them when working creatively, and when they come into university.
The most popular answer was nature, as science as proven that nature helps inspire people and also creates a better wellbeing for people, especially in a creative environment. This also ties in with out research into the building, with printed textiles being the most popular area of the university and other students wanting to bring plants into their studios
Another popular aspect of creating an inspiring environment was colour, which is something that the university currently definitely doesn't have that at the moment.
Another important aspect that people said helped them to work through the comments or 'other' section was light and windows and the importance of natural light coming through into the studios and rooms.

Many people said that the current way finding system was confusing and boring. Therefore it doesn't engage people, again not focusing on the importance of colour. Also the confusing aspect come from the different aspects of the way finding and the many number and letters which don't match up or correspond with each other.
What was interesting is that some of the responses asked 'What was a way finding system or 'what way finding system', so therefore people don't even realise it's there and don't find it important or useful.

When asking people about the current interior of the university, may people stated that it was both plain and boring. Other comments made complaints that the there was none or not enough student's artwork around the university, the talent of the students needs showcasing more, especially for when people come on open days or interviews. Another thing was that many people said that other student's work was one of the main aspects of what inspired them to create work, therefore these both tie together nicely.
