Design Strategy - India's Branding

6A2 - Design project, using design and creative skills.

Below shows the initial beginnings and development of a project for a Photography Student and their personal branding.

The brief was to create a business card and a stamp which could be transferred and used across a number of collateral, the client had aspirations of going into Art and Creative direction.

The client asked for the stamp to be a simple illustration of the likes of insects, or small sea creatures.

Research looked into different beetles, insects, the client's work and her name and personality. Which came across the Emerald Ash Borer beetle, which exists in Asia and buries eggs and larvae in ash tree bark. The client's surname is Ash, therefore this fitted in with the brief perfectly and had a personal meaning to the client.

The client knew a practitioner names Thomas Mayo who creates wood block stamps and focuses on letterpress and wood type for a living, therefore below shows research into him, his practice, social media presence and design work.

Below shows design development using illustrations of the chosen beetle, looking at incorporating this with hand written style fonts as stated in the brief by the client. The client was happy with the idea and meaning behind the beetle as well as the typefaces.

Further developments were made, looking at the shape of business cards, different colours and the borders, style of the cards.

Ultimately, the client began to not respond and was not co-operating, therefore it was taken from this that she no longer needed the designs of a graphic designer. This showed the difficulties with working for clients, especially when you put time into the work and then the client becomes unresponsive or unreliable.
